The method of preparing pages for ink, used by Muslim Artisans. Papers were smoothed and sealed by soaking them in veggie starch or gum, or by applying the starch or gum as a paste or powder. The paper turned out much whiter than traditional parchment, and it was less expensive to produce. [1]
