What are endpapers?

Endpapers are the thicker, more durable pieces of paper at the beginning and end of a physical book. Endpapers essentially keep the inside of the book connected to the outside cover of the book.

How and why are endpapers constructed?

One endpaper is pasted onto the inside cover of the book while the other endpaper is attached to a book block. Endpapers are a vital part of a book's construction because without them, the pages would not be able to lift from the spine in their usual arch when the book is opened.

Additionally, a lot of cool artwork is often placed on endpapers! Think about some of your favorite fantasy books, for example. Many of them have maps, designs, and landscapes on the inside cover's endpaper!
