Different trim sizes will ultimately make it so that your book is a different number of pages depending on what you choose. This in turn, could lead to an increase or decrease in costs for the printing of your book, so trim size choice should be made wisely. Additionally, the aesthetics of trim size have an influence, because if the words are tightly crammed on to a smaller page, in an effort to keep the same or fewer number of pages, the reader may struggle to read the text, and go in search of a different book. There are also certain trim sizes that are simply expected of certain genres. An example of that is attached below. Definition
Trim size is a phrase that is used to describe how large the set of pages within the book (or the book block) is. This can be the same size as the book, if it is a paperback, but hardback books often has a case that is larger than the book block, so the trim size will not be the exact size of the book.
Sizes
Some of the more common trim sizes are 6 by 9 or 5.5 by 8.5, but small dimension changes may greatly affect the overall feel of the book.[1] Other sizes and orientations besides portrait and landscape are definitely possible, but they require a great deal of planning and thought because then the trim size becomes quite a large influencing element to the way the book will finally present to an audience of readers.
Influences on your book
Different trim sizes will ultimately make it so that your book is a different number of pages depending on what you choose. This in turn, could lead to an increase or decrease in costs for the printing of your book, so trim size choice should be made wisely. [2]Additionally, the aesthetics of trim size have an influence, because if the words are tightly crammed on to a smaller page, in an effort to keep the same or fewer number of pages, the reader may struggle to read the text, and go in search of a different book.[3] There are also certain trim sizes that are simply expected of certain genres. An example of that is attached below. If your book is a part of one of these genres and does not match the typical size measurements, readers may be less likely to pick it up.
